Safeguarding and Child Protection

Safeguarding at Grovelands School

At Grovelands Community Primary School, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of every child. We aim to provide a caring and prosocial environment, and we strive to ensure that every pupil in our school feels safe, secure, well cared for, and able to reach their full potential.

We understand the importance of enabling children to talk openly and to feel confident that they will be listened to and supported.

We work hard to ensure that we safeguard and promote the welfare of all pupils and ensure that we have robust arrangements in place to identify, assess and support those children who are suffering, or who are likely to suffer, harm.

Acting quickly can make all the difference. If you think a child might be suffering neglect or abuse, it can be difficult to know what to do. But your action is vital in making sure that child gets the help they need.

To contact the school, call 01323 840062 and ask to speak with one of our Designated Safeguarding Leads. Mr Jon Goulding (Designated Safeguarding Lead) and Miss Natalia Squires (Safeguarding Strategic Lead) are the first points of contact in the school for any safeguarding concerns.

Alternatively, this email address is for all Parents, Carers and any other adults who need to share or report information or concerns to the school about a child. It is monitored throughout the weekend and holiday periods.

If you are concerned about a child in East Sussex call the SPOA (Single Point Of Advice) on 01323 464222.

For serious out of hour concerns which cannot wait until the next day, contact the Emergency Duty Service on 01273 335906 or 01273 335905.

If you think the child is in immediate danger, you should call the police.

The SSL discusses any potential safeguarding matters with the DSL both in link meetings and as part of scheduled safeguarding meetings. The Safeguarding Team meet in regular scheduled meetings. The SSL also meets termly with the Governor for Safeguarding, Mrs J Cole.

Grovelands Community Primary School completes the annual Safeguarding Children in Education Audit toolkit, supplied to East Sussex Education Division

All staff at Grovelands Community Primary School undertake Safeguarding training annually and refresher training midway through the academic year. As part of this training, all staff are informed of any updates to Keeping Children Safe in Education procedures. In addition to this, all staff complete a cycle of refresher safeguarding training and policy updates in areas such as Online Safety and Prevent.

All of our school Safeguarding Leads have completed Local Authority Designated Safeguarding Lead training, and several members of the Senior Leadership Team have completed training in Safer Recruitment.

Early Help is an approach to improving outcomes for families with multiple and complex problems. It aims to provide earlier, coordinated and more effective support to whole families. For more information about this, please speak with Miss Squires in school, or follow this link:

Our school participates in Operation Encompass, which is a unique Police and Education early intervention safeguarding partnership. Operation Encompass is an initiative in partnership with Sussex Police to report incidents where police have attended the family home after reports of domestic abuse. By receiving this information it enables the school to offer support to the child who may have been witness to events.
