In Term 5, the children will be learning about ‘Animals, including humans’.
For Science/topic the children will learn to identify and name common animals. They will learn how to group animals in different ways and begin to use scientific vocabulary such as mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians and insects. They will also learn about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores. We will be finding out about David Attenborough, a famous scientist.
Mrs Nash will be covering PSHE/science including aspects of health, hygiene, SRE and safety in her PPA sessions.
Our school trip in Year 1 will be to Plumpton Agricultural College (you should have received a letter already). The trip will be part of our animal and plant topics and we will be learning about some different animals, looking at planting and having a go at milling and grinding cereals and grains. We hope to then use some of the flour to make bread and butter back at school.
In English we will be preparing the children for the Phonics screening that will take place in June (w/c 12/6/17). We will be practising all the sounds we have learnt in Reception and Year 1 and read real and alien words.
In writing we will be looking at poetry and report writing and will use some Farm stories as our starting point.
Later in the term, we will look at pets and will be asking children about the pets they have at home.
If you have an unusual and/or small pet that you would like to bring in and that you (or your child) would be prepared to talk about – please contact your child’s teacher.
Unfortunately we are unable to have cats or dogs to visit.
