We hope that you all had a great Christmas and a happy New Year! The Year Six staff would like to express our gratitude for all the Christmas presents received at the end of term two- we are very appreciative for all of the lovely gifts.
This term, our topic is ‘Revel in Rio!’ with a focus on Brazil, Rio and the Carnival! The children will be learning about the famous landmarks in Rio and across Brazil, as well as thinking about the situation of Brazil in terms of its geography. We will focus particularly on learning geographical terms such as the Equator and Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn.
In English, we will be focusing on the book ‘Trash’ by Andy Mulligan. It follows three teenage boys who live in poverty and work to sift rubbish at a dump in a big city. They find something on the dump which changes the course of their lives- not always in a positive way.
In maths this term, we will be focusing on decimals, algebra, ratio and proportion and will practise reasoning and problem solving skills from across the Curriculum in preparation for the approaching SATS tests. We will continue to practise and develop mental and written strategies to give the best chance of success for the maths arithmetic paper.
We will hand out the SATS revision guides kindly donated to us by FROG this term; the SATs will come around faster than you think, so please try to do as much reading and calculations practise as you can at home!
