Welcome to term one of year 6! In your last year at Grovelands, you will be responsible for showing the rest of the school how to behave. You have instantly become role models to the rest of the school and you have started the year fantastically! This year you will have some of your most memorable primary school experiences such as going to Blacklands and/or being part of the year 6 show.
Homework is an important part of year 6. Every week you will get times tables to practise, spellings to learn, an activity on Mymaths to complete and you will be able to choose an activity from a menu. Homework will be given out on the Friday and will need to be handed in on a Wednesday. If you don’t have access to a computer then you will be able to complete your Mymaths activity on the computers at school.
We have planned an exciting start to the year! We have begun swimming (which will continue every Monday this term), and in October will visit Butser Ancient Farm to experience some Viking crafts. We have begun reading our class text ‘How to Train your Dragon’ by Cressida Cowell; we will be reading this text across the term and we’ll be completing pieces of writing inspired by our reading. We will also be spending our topic time finding out more about how the Vikings used to live.
We hope you have a very successful first term in year 6!
