Summer Fete 30th June 2007

The rotten summer weather didn’t deter the parents, children, teachers and friends of the school, who turned out in force at the summer fete on a rain-soaked Saturday afternoon to make a £2000 profit for the school funds.

An estimated 800 people came along to join in the fun at the event, which was sponsored by Stevens and Carter Estate Agents.  Amongst the attractions was Kevin “Topper” Fletcher, who brought along his circus skills workshop, sponsored by Mark Soper Opticians and Rainbow Transcriptions.  The children – and a few adults! - had a great afternoon learning how to juggle, spin plates, walk on stilts and ride unicycles.

The craft stall kept busy fingers occupied, making hats and brightly coloured windmills, while others tried their luck on the football shoot out, tombola, human fruit machine and silent auction.  The raffle proved very popular, with prizes including a generous donation from T&L Financial
Services, a gas barbecue and a really beautiful floral arrangement from The Posy Bowl (Hailsham). Those brave enough to go outside enjoyed the beer and Pimms tent and BBQ, with delicious burgers and not a soggy one in sight!

Friends of Grovelands (FRoG) and the school would like to thank all the sponsors of the fete, also including Barclays Bank as well as Hailsham shops and businesses, for their generous donations and support.  Most of all they wish to sincerely thank everyone who came along to the fete, to make what could have been a washout such a great success.
